How to Identify Your Phone Model

How to Identify Your Phone Model

TEAM CASEBOB |

Identifying your phone model can be crucial for many reasons, from troubleshooting issues to finding the right accessories. Whether you're an iPhone or Android user, our guide will walk you through the simple steps to quickly determine which model you have. Let's dive in and uncover the specifics of your device!

If You Have an iPhone

Check the Settings Menu

Launch your Settings menu and navigate to General > About. Here, you will see the Model Number and Model Name at the top of the menu. The Model Number typically starts with a letter M (replacement iPhones have model numbers starting with the letter N), which provides detailed identification of your device, including its color and storage capacity.

Tap to Reveal Detailed Model Number

You can tap on the Model Number to display a number starting with the letter A. This A-number can be looked up on Apple’s Support page. Use Ctrl+F to search the page for your model number to confirm your iPhone model. This is especially useful for older iPhones that do not store the model name in the About menu.

Check the Back of Your iPhone

If you are unable to turn on your iPhone, the model number can be found on the rear of the device in small print. Look for a combination of the letter ‘A’ and a number, which you can search on the Apple Support page online. For iPhones newer than the iPhone 7, the A-number will be printed inside the SIM tray.

Check the Settings Menu

Android devices are manufactured by different brands, but the principle for identifying the model remains the same. Launch the Settings menu and look for either About Phone or the System tab (these options might vary depending on the manufacturer). More recent Android devices will have the model name displayed in the About Phone section, such as the Google Pixel 2 XL or Samsung Galaxy S8.

Locate the Model Number

Older Android devices might only store the Model Number in the About Phone section. Once you have located this number, look it up online to identify which Android device you have. For instance, a model number like SM-G991B can be searched to find out that it's a Samsung Galaxy S21.

Check the Back of Your Android Device

Another way to find your Android device’s model is to look at the back of the device. Depending on the manufacturer, the Model Name might be printed as part of the design. However, this is becoming less common. If the model name is not visible on the back, look for an entry combined of numbers and letters. For example, Samsung devices will have something like SM-XXXXX printed on the back. You can then search this number online to identify your device.
